| Help and Frequently Asked
Questions
1. Can you come to my home?
Sorry, due to an increase in attacks on
home tutors we've discontinued home tutoring. All lessons take place at
room 102, level 1, 32 York Street Sydney
2. I want a particular timeslot. Can
you help?
Please email us with the timeslot you
need and we'll contact tutors to find which tutor would be available for
you
3. Do you have any further discounts
for sets of lessons?
Discount packs are available. Regular
price $100 for 2 hours. Buy 10 lessons for $1000 and get 10% off. $1000-$100=$900.
To get this discount you must pay in advance with cash. Please note that
there is a 2.5% charge on credit card transactions.
4. How much for 2+ children?
Please add $30 per 2 hour lesson per child
as each child has different needs and more preparation for the lesson would
be required by the tutor. So 2 children $130, 3 children $160, 4 children
$190 etc
5. Can I meet the tutor before the first
lesson? Can I speak to the teacher on the phone first? Can I discuss my
plans for my child with a teacher first?
All teachers are casuals and are only
at the school during the time of the lesson. Outside these times James,
the tutors' personal assistant and Principal of the school, is available
via email or mobile to answer any questions you may have, structure the
lessons according to what you want your child to learn, organise schedules
and the use of particular tutoring areas, as well as allocate particular
tutors for lessons. Initial analysis of your child's ability is performed
within the first lesson and after a series of lessons has taken place,
a short parent / tutor meeting reviewing performance can take place in
the middle of a lesson - we suggest in the middle of lesson 5.
Please note: No discussions with the
tutor after the lesson without prior booking. No walking into lessons while
they're in progress. Tutors need to be prepared for a parent /teacher meeting
and cannot answer your questions without preparation. Remember, tutors
teach hundreds of students so being able to answer specific questions about
a particular child will be difficult without some research first. If it
is important, please email the Principal first so that the tutor can be
prepared. Remember, most tutors find speaking with parents a terrifying
prospect so please give them plenty of time to prepare! Contact James -
james(at)zgenenglishschool.com directly if you have any particular questions
about your child's progress
6. Can you teach my child HSC English?
We teach English for speakers of other
languages. So, ESL English, not HSC English for native English speakers.
Our lessons are designed for students who have recently arrived in Australia
and are struggling with communicating in English. There is a selection
of things you can choose from if you have a particular area of English
that your child would like to learn. We design each lesson based around
your particular child's abilities and where they want to go. Our tutoring
service revolves around your child and teaches them exactly what they need
to know in the teaching style that they require. We're here to help
improve your child's communication skills in English as a second or foreign
language, to make it easier for them to network, make friends, fit in and
be more comfortable in our culture. Our lessons help your child to improve
their future prospects in Australia.
7. Can I watch a lesson with my child?
This can be very disturbing for the child
and the teacher. If you feel you must be present there is an additional
parent fee of $50. Parents watching lessons is extremely distracting for
children and it is unlikely your child will learn anything during that
lesson.
8. Do I need to buy a textbook?
All exercise materials are supplied in
the lesson. No textbook is required as each lesson is dynamic and builds
on what the student needs in particular. The tutor is not chained to just
one textbook! The tutor uses many resources to give the maximum benefit
to your child.
9. Do you teach children younger than
5 years old?
Sorry, we do not have the resources for
teaching pre-schoolers. We recommend child care centres like Ashfield Baptist
Child Care which have carers who also teach, counsellors and facilities
for this age group
10. What does my child need to bring
along to the lesson?
All students should bring pens, pencils,
erasers, a notepad or other book for writing in as well as a bottle of
water or other drink. If the child is attending high school they should
also bring a mobile phone and a usb flash drive
11. What do you need to know to be able
to teach my child?
When emailing or calling it would be helpful
if you also include the following information.
* The age of your child
* The outcomes you would like to see in
these lessons
* Your mobile number and email address
* If your child has them, your child's
mobile number and email address
12. What if my child is late to a lesson?
Children must be on time. The lesson will
not run overtime. If your child is late the lesson will still finish at
the set time. No make-up lessons will be given for missed time or lessons.
If your child misses a lesson that has been paid for, that lesson is lost
and the material the tutor prepared for that lesson will be emailed, including
homework.
If you have any other questions we're happy
to help.
